Introduction

Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive degenerative brain disease that is caused by nerve damage to specific areas of the brain that control movement and muscle tension. This results in a chemical  imbalance in the brain of dopamine and acethlycholine which are neurotransmitters and act as message transferring chemicals between the nerve cells (neurons) that coordinate muscle function.

What Occurs And The Symptoms of Parkinsonism

The damage to the extrapyramidal motor system occurs because of progressive degenerative changes in the basal ganglia primarily the substancia nigra which secretes dopamine. The resulting decrease in the number of neurons in the substancia nigra secreting dopamine which acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter leads to the following symptoms;

  • Staring “mask like” facial expression.
  • Speech impairment which is often slow and monotonous.
  • Cramping and muscle rigidity.
  • Walking with a shuffle like movement as they chase the centre of gravity.
  • Weight loss and eventual emaciation.
  • Resting tremor characterized by “pill rolling” movements of thumb and forefinger.

Causes of Parkinson’s Disease

A major cause of brain degenerative diseases including Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimers is oxidative damage to the brain due to heavy metal toxicity from aluminium, cadmium, lead and mercury. These heavy metals are able to penetrate the normally protective blood brain barrier where they damage and inhibit those areas in the brain which control muscular activity and cognitive function in general.

Aluminium is found in antiperspirants, antacids, drinking water, toothpaste, foil food wraps, baking powder and in drinking water.

Lead and Cadmium can containinate the food chain and water we drink as well as from environmental atmospheric pollution from industry and cars.

Mercury sources are from our polluted seas where by oily fish such as sword fish inhave a bad reputation for harboring mercury. The mercury in dental fillings is still considered as safe by many Western health authorities although in parts of Europe it has been phased out because of suspected health implications.

Conventional Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease versus Alternative Treatments

Replenishing the neurotransmitter dopamine with medication such as Levadopa. Unfortunately this does not address the initial cause and the continued use of exogenous medication eventually negates the body’s natural ability to produce any amount of dopamine at all because the body’s biofeedback mechanism ceases to function. This means that you will be dependant upon this medication for the rest of your life.

Natural Treatment For Parkinson’s Disease

Mother Natures Pharmacy located in Adelaide’s busy  Rundle Mall   has successfully treated cases of  Parkinson’s Disease  using a combination of the following  alternative treatments.

  • Nutritional Supplements  – Reduce heavy metal accumulation and oxidative damage in the brain.
  • Herbal Medicines  – Stimulate cognitive function and aid in detoxification.
  • Life Style  – Postive outlook and engagement of an enjoyable hobby or support group helps.
  • Diet  – Essential part of any healing process.

At no stage are you advised to discontinue mainstream medicine without consulting your doctor.

The cases of Parkinson’s disease that our clinic has treated have been recent diagnosed cases of Parkinson’s Disease whereby the cause has been heavy metal toxicity  and or oxidative damage . These are the cases that have responded well. At our clinic it is routine practice to test for heavy metals in urine whenever a patient presents with a neurological problem.

If you have been taking medication for Parkinson’s Disease for a long time the prognosis using alternative medicine  although it may help the condition the outcome is limited.
